Strip Tease!

What? A Friday update? I scanned this yesterday (Thursday) and then got busy drawing stuff (The Rocketeer) and forgot to post this drawing. I really like how this turned out...it's part of a larger image but the rest just didn't look good enough to share. Soon, though.

Okay...back to the Rocketeer!

A little Scruff Scribbling

I wonder if I should be writing to the guys I've drawn. At the very least I should tell them they are attractive. I like that the one guy is wearing glasses in his muscle shot!

Man Drawing!

These two gorgeous fellas (as gorgeous as a hairy chest minus head can be) provided wonderful relief from a day of inking. Sometimes I get so wrapped up inking comic book pages that I start working mechanically. Taking a break to draw in pencil, loosely and without concern for finishing a drawing helps me to see my penciled pages in a different light and ink with greater freedom.

Scruff Sketch!

My schedule! Oh, my schedule! Lately I've been quite busy and any drawing time is spent on work. But a guy needs breaks from drawing superheroes and the Mayor of Toronto (I'll talk about that stuff when I can). So I've been sketching guys on popular "dating" apps in between pages. Just loose sketches, mind you. No time yet to finish any of the drawings. But it's good brain-freeing, arm-loosening exercise and it gives me something to share with all of my patient blog viewers :)

best,

Bait and Tackle!

Out shopping the other day I saw these two guys trying on hip-waders (thigh to waist high boots for standing in rivers when fishing, for those not in the know :) Both were scruffy, trim bodied country boys just naturally sexy. I took a mental picture and present the drawing here for you. A drawing is a poor substitute for reality - but then a drawing will never look at ya funny for staring.

Stare away.

Anti-Bullying Campaign!

This weekend in Toronto I'll be participating in an art show open house. The event is called POWERHAUS and takes place at Glad Day Bookshop. The show runs from this Sunday 23rd of September to October 23rd. Click on Powerhaus to see the Facebook event listing.

I was fortunate in that I wasn't bullied as a kid. Not that I was out gay back in high school, but I wasn't even bullied for being a nerd, wearing glasses, or having braces. However...I did have fantasies like the ones I drew here...and that last panel almost, sort of happened. Actually the guy asked me to draw a naked lady for him. And I did. :)

Also, I noticed that I drew two crowd scenes of people exclaiming how awesome I...I mean, My Superhero counterparts, am/are. I draw my own applauding audience. What does that say about my need for approval? Let's not psychoanalyze, shall we.

If you're in Toronto come by the show. Several local artists are taking part and from what I've seen there's some amazing art going up. The show runs for a month so even if you miss the opening night you can still see the art and visit Toronto's famous Glad Day Bookshop.

Rim'ah, Jungle King!

With apologies to Musclsvg for missing his birthday, here's a R'IMA mock cover. I flipped back through my blog to provide links for past R'ima drawings and only now realized that I named him "Rim'ah". But I've already scanned the pencil art with shorter spelling...so let's just call that temporary amnesia (or laziness). He'll be "Rim'ah" when I get a chance to finish this "cover".
I figured I'd share the rough drawing with you as well because that's always fun. As I was drawing this I wished I had a model handy to take on Rim'ah's pose for me. Not for dirty/sexy reasons but because that's a hard pose to draw.
Okay...maybe for a couple of dirty/sexy little reasons...but I swear it's all in the name of art.

So Happy Belated, Musclsvg!

Hero's Day Off!

As requested in the comments (by Javier, if you must know :) a drawing of a superhero on his day off. I started this drawing a while ago with plans to do it as a print or something for a convention. You can see in the rough drawing above that there will eventually be a second figure...just two dudes hangin' out in the Superhero HQ lounge (probably watching Kate and Leopold or some other romantic comedy).

Excelsior!

Small Town Super Boy!

A commission for a fan who requested Conner Kent in a pose similar to my fab cover drawing from 2009. Any time I've drawn the Kent farm I always like to include the windmill-thingy from the '78 SUPERMAN movie. Still one of the best superhero movies ever made.

Backstreet Dads!

This drawing is based on a Boylesque T.O. routine called "Backstreet Dads". The guys start out dressed as business suited fathers pushing their kids in strollers. The music kicks in, the Dads can't keep still and before you know it they're dancing in their underwear.

Summer Lovin'!

For me this has been the Summer of the Hipster. A lot of my weekends have been spent hanging out in the Queen West area of Toronto - known hang out for all the city's hipsteriest hipsters! At the pool they show off their tattooed, narrow-waisted hotness in square cut stylish trunks. And on the patios and in the parks it's all about trendy 50s style sunglasses, slim shorts and the hipster haircut (short on the sides and back, longish and slicked back on top). Also beards. I love scruff and the hipster look is very clean-cut scruff (an oxymoron? Probably. But hot is hot, oxymoronic or not).

Happy Summer!

The Men of Burlesque!

As I was cleaning up my desk the other day I came across this batch of drawings from the Percy Katt session of Dr. Sketchy's. I love Percy's spaceman outfit (resembling as it does my own Jett Vector design). Percy has an absolutely amazing body, all long and lean with perfect chest and shoulders. I based these drawings on my rough sketches and tried to cartoon the heck out of his proportions and play with the straights and curves.

This last set of portraits was my attempt at capturing another Jett - Jett Adore, the no-pancer romancer from Chicago. I saw Jett perform again at this past summer's Burlesque festival and will be posting more drawings of him very soon. Incidentally, I don't know that I captured a good likeness, but I like the character in these so here they are :)

Summer Sketching

As much as I hate to admit to it -- I've been sorely neglecting my blog. This summer I have just not been drawing as many Bonesmen. It's a sad state of affairs, really. I've seen a lot of hot guys this summer, and recently sat down with the purpose of putting as many of them to paper as I possibly could. As a result there will be new updates on a semi-regular basis (Mondays and Thursdays) as I attempt to warm my way back into your hearts.

Invasion of Roger Rodgers or Rhymes With Venus!

For his birthday, Javier, wished upon a star. Ever happy to play the part of Blue Fairy I worked up a new Roger Rodgers drawing. It's actually a redrawing of an old drawing based on a Planet Stories cover from long, long ago (1942, to be precise). The original image is by Alexander Leydenfrost .
Hope you have a very Happy Birthday day, Javier!

best,

Life Drawing Digitally.

Cleaning my apartment the other day I found a stack of old life drawings. I snapped photos of the sketches before getting rid of them and decided I'd use them as the basis for warm-up drawings. Digital warm-up drawings! I've been messing around in Photoshop with my Wacom, mostly producing sketchy stuff not worth sharing. But I liked how this one turned out, just playing with lit sides and very little detail.
Kinda reminds me of black velvet artwork :)

More Man Doodles!

Summer has come early to Toronto and with it a great many joggers, construction workers and just generally good looking guys out enjoying the sun! Every day is a feast for the eyes. I sketch them when I can and commit others to memory for later inspiration.

I've also been trying to keep my CafePress store updated with new images and material. The latest is a t-shirt with the slogan "Bag it Before you Board it #nerdsex" Always remember to play safe, boys.

Man Doodles

Been working on comic book artwork lately which has left me little more than doodling time for my men. But I've got quite a few pages of doodles...here's a compilation of some of them. As I clean up my desk I'm sure I'll find more :)

Look...I drew a bare bum in one of them!

One Eyed Josh!

It's been awhile since I've posted a Josh drawing but I was going through old files the other day and saw this one. I don't remember why I drew the eye-patch. With all the Avengers buzz and Nick Fury being in the movie maybe eye-patches will be in fashion this summer.

Morning Inspiration!

This morning, on my way to Starbucks I spotted a broad shouldered, scruffy man walking his dog. Even from the distance of several feet I could see his abs and pecs pushing against his white shirt.
Would it be too much to ask of the Universe that he stop into Starbucks for a coffee? No. It would not. In he walked and I openly stared - already drawing him in my head to be later put down on paper. Up close he was even more perfect. And I was not the only one staring. My friend beside me (who is, I confess, the handsomest of men) muttered oaths of appreciation and caught a girl at the door taking one last look at male beauty before leaving.
My drawing can't capture that incredible moment but it's the closest I'll get to having the guy in my home. Believe you me I'll be on the lookout for him every morning that I happen to be at the same Starbucks.

*sigh*

Muscle Daddy!

Lately it seems the only Beefcake I've had time to draw is for DJ Dwayne Minard and his Daddy Next Door posters! Fortunately I get the chance to draw some pretty HOT Beefcake. The latest image Dwayne requested was a muscle Daddy with a fan :)
I went with a common workout scene - young muscle hunk ogling older tough guy. The colors, as usual, were handled by the incredible Michael Wiggam. I'd asked for sweaty colors and Mike delivered!
Muscle hugs,

Nerds!

Seems the only time I sit down to draw Beefcake these days is when I'm working on a poster image for DJ Dwayne's Daddy Next Door event. Last month was a Nerd themed night so I got to draw some hot Daddy nerds. I like the muscled, t-shirt guy but Dwayne went with the more Daddy looking librarian. That bespectacled Prof. sure can carry a heavy load.
Delicious colors are provided by the ever-amazing Michael Wiggam!

Ginger Beef!

I've not drawn many red-heads (if any ever...?) But recently DJ Dwayne's Daddy Next Door party night catered to the Ginger and Ginger-loving crowd. Brilliant colorist Michael Wiggam did an amazing job with this beefy daddy - including coloring all of his body hair (which those of you who color on the computer know is no easy task).

hugs,
